Use your home phone for a conference call with Three-Way Calling

Three-Way Calling lets you connect two other callers at the same time, in a mini-conference call. Learn how to use Three-Way Calling and see solutions to common problems.

Three-Way Calling is available in most areas. You can get it as a monthly subscription or pay-per-use.

How to use Three-Way Calling

  1. While you're on a call, press the Flash button (on a cordless phone) or receiver (on a corded phone) firmly for one second, then release. This puts the first person on hold. You will then hear three brief tones followed by a dial tone.

  2. When you hear the dial tone, dial the number of the person you want to add to the call. After that person answers, you can talk privately before completing the next step.

  3. When you're ready, press the receiver or Flash button firmly again for one second.

  4. This returns the first person to the line and completes the three-way connection. You can begin your mini conference call.

How to disconnect a three-way call

  1. Press the receiver button once to drop the last person you added.

  2. Hang up to disconnect everyone and end the call.

Things to know about Three-Way Calling

  • You can use Three-Way Calling to add another person to your call, no matter who placed the first call. However, when you hang up, the other two people will also be disconnected.

  • When the three-way call includes long distance, you pay only for the call(s) you make.

  • Call Waiting does not work during a three-way call.

Common Three-Way Calling problems

  • Make sure your phone is set to TONE, not PULSE. Many phones have a physical P/T switch located on the side, bottom or back of the unit. If you don't see a physical switch, try the phone's setup menu and look for the P/T settings.

  • Try calling from another phone. If you can get the feature to work from a different phone, then the problem is most likely with your equipment.

  • This feature will not work from or to a hotel, motel or prison.

  • This feature will not work if you're trying to use it simultaneously with Call Transfer or Call Waiting.

  • Three-Way Calling can be blocked. If it's blocked on your line, contact us to remove the block. There's no charge to do this.
